Viktor Wynd’s Museum of Curiosities

Viktor Wynd’s Museum of Curiosities

Ever wanted to see the preserved vagina of a Victorian prostitute? Or how about David Bowie’s mullet that he cut off after his last Ziggy Stardust concert in Hammersmith Odeon? Kylie Minogue’s poo in a jar, anyone?

Yes, you heard me right the first time. This and much more is all available to view at Viktor Wynd’s Museum of Curiosities at 11 Mare St, Hackney and it doesn’t end there. Skeletons, shrunken heads, two headed lambs and even sex tips for Irish farmers!

When I arrived to film I was lucky enough to meet Viktor Wynd in person as he occasionally conducts personal tours of his “Wundercabinet” and I would definitely recommend you do this as he is one of the most fascinating individuals you will ever meet.

He describes himself as an artist, writer, curator, dandy and dilettante amongst many other things and as he ambles through the cluttered Aladdin’s cave he regales us with stories of when he met cannibals and secured Pablo Escobar’s golden elephant head. Reciting poetry and offering us invertebrates to eat all adds to his charm and overall eccentricity. How did he get all this stuff?

He has studied Medieval Islamic history in London and at in Florida as well as stints in Paris and has acquired along the way tropical fish, butterflies, art and plants and his interests include relational aesthetics, decay, the meaning of life and the paranormal having even hosted seances and numerous art exhibitions.

As if that wasn’t enough he is the founder and Chancellor of the Last Tuesday Society putting on literary salons, balls and masquerades (some of which I have been to and they are most decadent affairs with naked staff and pigs head thrown in for good measure.) There is a bar at the museum where you can learn cocktail mixing or enjoy a bar snack of grasshoppers or silkworms, or if you prefer you can hire the room with the sarcophagus in it for private events (or intimate moments).

All in all Viktor Wynd’s Museum of Curiosities is one of the oddest and most delightful hidden treasures in London. I guarantee you will have you eyes opened, especially if you want to see Russell Brand’s pubic hair!
